Objective
The objective of MONOLIN is to integrate escort memories - IC chips attached to moving products or production units - into CIM communication networks. This will require the development of standards for both escort memories and their integration into manufacturing systems.
The approach will be to specify a system with modular nodes (both mobile and stationary) and two interface levels, namely:
- a two-way binary link supporting several transmission media (inductive, microwave, infrared etc), which will be used for remote identification and remote connection to sensors, actuators and autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs)
- a transition from the first interface level on a stationary node to the host systems, which will be compliant with CNMA.
The work will include enhancement of existing technologies in the areas of miniature ID plates and data transmission range, speed and capacity.
Pilot demonstrations envisaged are:
- the logistics interaction between a large enterprise and several SMEs, including the integration of an incoming flow of containers with the product flow on an assembly line
- CNMA services in a production area based on several escort memory systems.
The results will be incorporated in products and services marketed by members of the consortium.
