Low cost thermally sprayed and structured conductive layers for power electronic printed circuit boards

Objective

The European power electronics printed circuit board market is worth 780Mio with approximately a percentage of 73% small and medium enterprises working in this sector. The whole market has undergone many major changes in the past few years and has been recovering some of the competitiveness that it lost to the Far East, Japan and Malaysia. The aim of the proposed project is to develop low cost thermally sprayed and structured conductive layers for power electronic printed circuit boards. This work will be carried out by a consortium of SMEs which will form a supply chain able to deliver the developed technology. Providing technological development capability three RTD performers will complement the skills of the SMEs in the project. They carry out scientific and technological research. Thus, the project will meet specific strategic objectives of the Horizontal Research Actions involving SMEs under Co-operative Research:
1.Improve or create competitiveness of European SME in the power PCB market by reducing their cost for manufacturing heat-sink substrates;
2.Improve competitiveness and technology of local SME suppliers materials supplier by opening a new market for his;
3.Support participating SMEs in respond to pressures of continuous innovation and technological adaptation;
4.Grant benefit of proposing SMEs by accessing new developments that enable them to use those in new applications on new markets with new customers;
5.Facilitate trans-national co-operation between SMEs and research organisations from 7 member states, as well as large enterprise route to market, thus enabling their strategies for competitiveness and intenationalisation;
6.Facilitate co-operative relations in research activities between SMEs and research institutes, thus enabling SMEs to benefit from many advantages of networking for innovation.
The material savings consists mainly of the fewer use of Aluminium (smaller heat-sinks because of better thermal conductivity)...

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
