Objective
The objective of the experiment is to analyse the introduction of the 00 (Object Oriented) technology in the software development of a new network manager called: 'COHERENCE'. The benefits will be evaluated compared to previous developments in the network management field ('UNIVIEW'). Increased reliability and evolutivity are expected. A short testing phasis is also scheduled.
The new network manager, support of the experiment, targets the European market. COHERENCE will be developed with respect to the OSI recommendations (OSF/DME standards).
COHERENCE is fully funded by CSEE. The project is partly based on results of former R & D projects, like PEMMON, an ESPRIT program.
COHERENCE manages heterogeneous data networks like Ethernet TCP/IP, X25 OSI TP4, NETWARE, LAN MANAGER. Faults and performances management is undertaken by the application. Complexity of these operations comes from the heterogeneous context. It implies correlation mechanisms for providing a global view in terms of performance and operability.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
