Information engineering concepts applied to software engineering

Objectif

The software engineering market is rapidly structuring as an Information market, with a more and more clear differentiation between the activities of publisher, provider, carrier and user of software related information. The key idea is to be able to disseminate software-related information and to provide services (support, training,collaborative working,...) around this information.

The study will specifically address the service aspects of the emerging activities through the definition of basic multimedia service components like remote training, collaborative working, telesupport. These multimedia service components will be combined in order to enable:
establishing and managing the connection between the information owner, the publisher and the user, paying attention to all steps of the information chain from information production to after-sales maintenance and updates through teleworking and telesupport;
providing remote training facilities concerning software packages or specific activities of the software engineering process;
The service provider may be internal to a company, and embody an element of corporate memory, or open, making available data and services on a commercial basis. The information managed may include, preferably, software components, but also technical and commercial documents, and other elements, or elements for sale.

The Software engineering market is structuring rapidly as an Information market, with a more and more clear differentiation between the activities of publisher, provider, carrier and user of software related information, and an everyday increasing importance of associated services like training and support. The aim of this project is to study the feasibility of a remote services structure supporting the activities and related transactions involved in this market between the previously mentioned actors.

The approach of this feasibility study is to rely on a strong basis of skills and previous related projects to identify potential users and analyse their requirements in terms of applications, functionalities and technologies in order to study the feasibility of services infrastructures, and to choose the best technologies for building solutions suitable for different users needs. Then, the focus will be put on market study in order to ensure concrete results to the study. The strong experience on open systems in very close areas will allow the consortium to identify rapidly complete and operational prototypes, based on existing technologies which can be integrated and exploited in a subsequent phase of the programme.
