Objective
The call for internationalisation launched by FP6 is particularly strong in Life Sciences (LSH) and will become even stronger in the forthcoming FP7. Due to a number of reasons S&T cooperation with the region of Latin America and Caribbean (LA&C) in the field of LSH has a special importance to Europe. It has been proven by several previous projects that long-lasting and significant impetus to S&T cooperation can be provided by creating sustainable supporting and facilitating infrastructure in partner countries. The overall objective of the project is to stimulate international cooperation in the field of LSH between Europe and countries of LA&C in FP7 by creating in this region a network of regional information nodes able to raise public awareness of cooperative opportunities, create new partnerships, facilitate inclusion of research teams from LA&C into European consortia. This objective will be achieved by implementing the following set of activities: - The network set up and promotion. The nodes will be set up on the basis of partner institutions in the LA&C countries with S&T Agreement with the EC. Appropriate promotion and positioning in the national research landscapes will ensure the networks sustainability; - Targeted training measures. The staff of the nodes will be trained in the field of European research project management. Having been trained the trainers will provide further training to the local research communities; - The networks pilot operation. The nodes will organize information events, provide information and facilitation support to national research teams, keep close contacts with European LSH NCPs, facilitate the project's contact travel grant programme and maintain web-based directory of local LSH research teams. As a result, the information network in the field of LSH will be fully operational and will contribute to substantial growth of international cooperation between Europe and LA&C in a view of forthcoming FP7.
