Automating quantum control with machine learning

Project description

Maintaining quantum computers in a perpetually calibrated state

Quantum computing stands out as one of the most revolutionary technologies, empowering both the realms of science and industry with unparalleled possibilities for advancement. Nonetheless, the intricacy and fragility of quantum computers are undeniable. The process of fine-tuning these machines proves to be arduous and time-intensive, making an overhaul in our operational approach imperative. In this context, the EU-funded qx project is developing a solution pioneered by Quantrolox. Specifically, it revolves around maintaining quantum computers in a perpetually calibrated state. The project endeavours to conceive a quantum autopilot software, meticulously designed to incessantly monitor and fine-tune thousands of parameters, ensuring uninterrupted and seamless operations. The outcome may expedite development cycles and harness the full potential of quantum computing.

Objective

Quantum computing will be one of this century's most transformative technologies. These machines will open a new world of possibilities for science and industry. But first, we need to radically transform how we operate quantum computers. Quantum computers are intricate and delicate instruments. Tuning them is time-consuming and difficult. And they go out of tune rapidly. In the end, these amazing instruments spend much more time being tuned than used. If we want to turn quantum computing into a robust industry, things have to change. This is the challenge we take on at Quantrolox. We develop solutions that keep quantum computers automatically in tune. Our quantum autopilot software continuously monitors and adjusts thousands of parameters to ensure smooth operation. In this way, we accelerate development cycles and drastically increase uptime.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
