The First Miniaturized
Non-Resonant Antenna Tailored to
Internet of Things Applications

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - TRIO++ (The First Miniaturized
Non-Resonant Antenna Tailored to
Internet of Things Applications)

Période du rapport: 2023-12-01 au 2024-11-30

The embedded chip antenna domain involves designing and integrating compact, efficient antennas directly in sensors and IOT solutions for wireless communication applications. These antennas facilitate connectivity in devices like smart meters, wearables, and GPS trackers. Key challenges include size constraints, impedance matching, and radiation efficiency. Applications span from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to emerging technologies like 5G, demanding a delicate balance between size, performance, and manufacturability. Optimal communication is the main objective for better range and battery life; hence antenna design is a critical element when developing new antenna solutions.
IoT device antenna engineers encounter challenges like limited space for compact designs, frequency interference, and signal attenuation in diverse environments. Achieving optimal performance across various communication standards, addressing impedance matching issues, and ensuring reliable connectivity in real-world scenarios pose difficulties. Balancing cost constraints with antenna efficiency adds complexity. Iterative testing and refinement have been the only solution to overcome these problems. Ignion is offering a completely new platform approach enabling any engineer to use Virtual Antenna® technology by designing optimal RF solutions with the Antenna Intelligence Cloud™ platform.
Ignion has been working to develop a multi radio single part based in its own technology Virtual Antenna® that performs equal that three separate antenna boosters. Saving space, complexity and cost.
The versatility of the new product has achieved the goal set at the beginning of the project, solving all the technical challenges of facing multiple radios in a small antenna booster coupling, use of filters…
In the Antenna Intelligence Cloud™ we have developed a digital twin able to deliver automatically a report with the main specifications of the performance of the antenna. To generate the report Ignion only needs a few data collected through a form in our website, and the power of the Cloud and Ignion Knowhow will do their magic.
The development of the capabilities of simulate multiantenna devices (up to 4 antennas that covers 98% of the cases we have received in the last 7 years) has been a technical challenge. To give the end user the most satisfying user experience we are working in the development of a new interface and new applications that will support them through all the stages of the design.
The new opportunity opened with the new TRIO++ architecture enables a new path and potential new developments and new solutions, but still on the first stage and we have no a clear view of the next steps. We plan to dedicate time to deeper understanding in the near future, something that will need further investigation to know if enhancements and applications.
Now we should focus on the commercialization strategy, pricing and marketing to reach the full potential of the solution. Still, it’s clear it will take time until the revenue generated by the new product gets a remarkable volume.

The potential applications and capabilities of the Antenna Intelligence Cloud™ are just on the ramp up. Ignion has deployed the ones that needed a common backend development and cover the main needs of end customers. Still, there’s a lot of options to develop in the future to complement it and updates to the current features will be needed. Ignion expects software tools to be involved in their sale process in the coming years, especially with incorporation of IA/ML as real applications. Ignion will monitor all the potential changes that the new technologies can bring to the AIC.
