Œufs exempts de germes destinés à la production de vaccins et aux applications biothérapeutiques
Les fabricants de vaccins utilisent plus d’un milliard d’œufs de poule chaque année. La fabrication de vaccins à base d’œufs est la méthode la plus fréquemment employée. Grâce au projet OvaVax, financé par l’UE, il est désormais possible de produire des œufs exempts de germes, un produit aux qualités supérieurs à celles des œufs exempts d’organismes pathogènes spécifiques (EOPS), la référence à l’heure actuelle. Le projet Ovavax2, financé par le CEI, entend élargir la portée du projet OvaVax relevant de la phase 2 de l’Instrument PME sous l’égide d’H2020. Il vise à élargir et à accélérer les travaux du projet en incluant la grippe, la COVID-19, la fièvre jaune et la maladie de Newcastle, et à produire des œufs exempts de germes à l’échelle commerciale. Des défis tels que la COVID-19 et les futures pandémies ont rendu d’autant plus impérieux le besoin d’améliorer et d’accroître rapidement la production de vaccins.
Objectif
Ovagen is aiming to transform the egg-based production of vaccines and other biopharmaceutical medicines by producing the world’s first Germ Free egg and bringing it into mass production.
The proposed programme of work will build on the groundwork initiated as part of the 30 month OvaVax project (GA 858390) and provides a logical expansion of this disruptive, innovative technology to the challenges facing the world as it comes to grips with COVID-19 and future pandemics with the need for rapid scale-up of vaccine production
Ovagen is applying for EIC Accelerator funding to broaden the project scope of their existing H2020 SME Instrument Phase 2 to expand and accelerate the existing influenza project, to include COVID-19, Yellow Fever, Newcastle Disease and to include readiness for production and accelerated international scaleup of germ free egg production to increase global vaccine manufacturing capacity in readiness for future pandemics similar to COVID-19.
