Reverion has developed a new type of power plant that can both generate electricity and store energy, using the same system. At its core are high-temperature fuel cells that operate in two directions: they can turn gas (like biogas or hydrogen) into electricity, and they can also do the reverse - use electricity to produce gas. This makes the system highly flexible and able to react to what the energy grid needs at any given moment.
When there is too much renewable electricity in the grid, the Reverion system can store that energy by turning it into green hydrogen or biomethane. When there is too little electricity available, it switches back and generates power from gas. This helps balance the energy supply and demand, which is increasingly important as more solar and wind power come online. The system is very efficient and produces almost no emissions. It is especially useful for upgrading existing biogas plants, making them cleaner, more efficient, and more profitable.
