Automated production process for next-level redox flow battery stacks and modules following a revolutionary different and cost-optimised production approach

Powering a breakthrough in energy storage systems

An increase in the use of renewable energies is essential to combat climate change. However, in the past, renewables have been backed up by fossil fuel-based generators. To create a sustainable future, electricity generation systems must rely on CO2-free energy storage devices to bridge the gaps in wind and solar energy production. This requires cost-efficient and reliable long-duration stationary storage systems. Redox flow batteries are well-suited to meet these demands, as they offer the lowest cost per cycle, sustainability and safety. The EU-funded Clean(S)tack project proposes a revolutionary and innovative battery stack assembly process that promises significant cost reductions. The project aims to automate the production of stacks and modules for redox flow batteries.

Objective

To meet climate targets, the worldwide increase of renewable energies is inevitable. While the increase of renewables in the past years was backed-up with fossil fuel-based generators, the future electricity generation systems will rely on CO2-free energy storage devices to bridge the shortfall-times from wind and solar. Consequently, efficient use of renewables goes hand in hand with cost-efficient and reliable long-duration stationary storage systems.

The new markets for long-duration stationary storage systems demand lowest cost per cycle (LCOS), sustainability and safety. These criteria are at best fulfilled by redox flow batteries.

VANEVO (https://www.vanevo.de/home(opens in new window)) invented new components for various kind of redox flow batteries – including future concepts. VANEVO patented a revolutionary different innovate battery stack assembly process with significant cost reductions and intends to automate the stack and module production for redox flow batteries.
