Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. It is a major comorbidity of cardiovascular disease and a significant risk factor for type 2 diabetes, stroke, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation, among other conditions. The current gold standard treatment relies on positive airway pressure (PAP) devices, which often cause discomfort, as they require patients to wear a face mask connected to a hose throughout the night. The Sunrise Tx project introduces the first truly comfortable, non-invasive, cost-effective, and accessible solution for sleep apnea treatment. Sunrise Tx is designed to broaden access to personalized therapy, improve patient compliance, and provide millions of people worldwide with a more comfortable and effective solution for managing their sleep apnea.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The activities focused on refining the design and enhancing patient comfort for the Sunrise Tx device. Through extensive research and multiple design iterations, significant advancements were achieved, resulting in a markedly improved user experience. A rigorous clinical validation process was implemented to thoroughly assess the device’s efficacy and safety. The validation results demonstrated strong clinical value, earning widespread support from the medical community.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

The Sunrise Tx project surpasses the current state of the art in sleep apnea treatment by offering a non-invasive, cost-effective, and patient-centered solution that overcomes the limitations of conventional PAP therapies. Building on its validated efficacy and safety, the device integrates innovative design and personalized therapy to significantly enhance comfort, usability, and patient compliance, addressing key barriers to long-term adherence. Beyond improving the user experience, Sunrise Tx expands access to effective care, providing a practical and scalable solution for millions of patients. By combining technological innovation with a patient-centric approach, Sunrise Tx represents a transformative advancement in sleep apnea management, setting a new standard in therapeutic care.
