Over 80 million tonnes of plastic are disposed of annually and about 8 million tonnes reach the ocean. The CO2TEXTILE project seeks to dramatically reduce the use of environmentally harmful fossil-fuel-based textiles by developing a portfolio of high-performance bio-alternatives consisting of CO2-based biopolymers with adequate physical and chemical properties, not polluting wastewater with long lasting plastic microfibers, contaminating the seas and waters and also harmful for the sea life and ultimately reducing the CO2 footprint for the textile materials. At the same time, in Europe, the industrial CO2 emissions reached 3.5 GT in 2017 and cost €87.5 billion in CO2 allowances (EUAs). CO2TEXTILE transforms these industrial CO2 emissions into value-added biodegradable biopolymers that are both compostable (compliant with ASTM D6400 and 6868) and biodegradable in marine environment (compliant with ASTM D7081).

The main objective of the project is the installation of a pilot plant for CO2 conversion in real operating conditions to qualify our solution and reach TRL 9.
We have attended and held presentations at several fairs and conferences like the Gothenburg Summit (September 2022), Cleantech Forum Europe (November 2022), EIC GHG Programme Summit (December 2022), and Europe Female Founders Forum (March 2023). We made further efforts like creating a new website and actively pushing our LinkedIn profile.
“OK Compost Home”, “OK Compost Industrial” (EN 13432), ASTM D6400, and ASTM 6868 (compostable) certification processes have started with chemical assessments of small quantities, no fundamental obstacles to obtain the target certification were identified and actually the testing proved an excellent timing for achieving biodegradation targets required by the relevant standards, for both PHB and PHBV produced at labs scale.
