Project description
Electrical hammer for zero-emission mining and construction sectors
Hydraulic breaker hammers (HBHs) face fundamental limitations concerning energy and hydraulic oil consumption, performance, precision and others. The EIC project RHINO proposes a fully electrical impact hammer to address these limitations of HBHs and support electric transformation, digitalisation and data-based business in the construction and mining sectors. The innovative patented technology relies on the tubular linear permanent magnet motor. Compared to HBHs, it reduces CO2 emissions by up to 100 %, saves energy by up to 60 %, and ends oil spills and excessive hydraulic oil consumption. The electrical impact hammer is entirely adjustable, increases safety, lowers noise and tremor levels, provides significant life cycle cost savings, increases performance and precision, and allows adjustments in striking sequence.
Objective
A fully electrical impact hammer (LEH) is proposed in this project in order to address the fundamental limitations from hydraulic breaker hammers (HBHs), as well as fostering opportunities in regard to electric transformation, digitalization (DigiLeka) and data based business in the construction and mining industries. This novel patented technological innovation is based on the tubularic linear permanent magnet motor. Compared to HBHs, LEH reduces CO2 emissions up to 100%, saves energy up to 60%, ends oil spills and excessive consumption of hydraulic oil, is fully adjustable, increases safety, lowers noise and tremor levels, provides significant life-cycle-cost savings (80000 EUR/hammer in 4 years), increases performance and precision, and allows adjusting striking sequence. This project will result in a totally new approach to hammering process in mining and construction providing a ground-breaking cost efficient, digitalized, connected, safe, environmental and user friendly solution.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
