SUBSTITUTION OF ENVIRONMENTALLY HARMFUL CHROMATES FOR PASSIVATION OF ZINC PLATED PARTS WITH MOLYBDATE PHOSPHATE

Objective

Validation of an innovative process technology designed to substitute toxic chromates for passivation of zinc plated parts with a newly developed composition of molybdate and phosphate called Molyphos. Molyphos has been tested extensively at laboratory scale and is patented, but is not yet used at industrial scale. The project aims at demonstrating that MolyPhos matches chromate based passivation at competitive cost. Large scale end-users of zinc parts/components include VOLVO
