Objective
The Researcher Year 2005 in Norway (RESEARCHER-YEAR-NOR) will be coordinated by the Research Council of Norway. The objective is - to improve and promote a better public understanding of the contribution of researchers to society - e.g. by demonstrati ng how researchers contribute to creation of new knowledge, innovation and creation of knowledge-based jobs and enterprises, thus improving competitiveness and economic growth - encourage more young people to R&D careers - contribute to make the EU and associated countries attractive for research talents from all over the world. The means will include preparation, production and dissemination of relevant information, material and activities showing the role and importance of research and researcher s to the public, presented via media, websites and at existing established national and regional events specifically aimed at information on research and for recruiting of researchers among students and pupils - including - "Forskningsdagene" (the Norwe gian Science Week), the opening of which is on Sept 23rd "Researchers' Night" - the universities information weeks - targeted school events (Nysgjerrigper=Curious George) and - events organised as part of the Year of Physics. The material and informatio n will be focused on the promotion of research career and targeted to those still choosing their career, including pupils at schools and high schools, students at universities - and the general public. An evaluation of the project will be carried out by th e end of the project.
