Minho Year of Physics

Objective

Portugal spends nowadays slightly above 0.7 % of its GDP in research and technology every year. Such a figure significantly departs from the 3 % of GDP goal of the European Union for 2010. To help achieve this goal, we believe on the need for an active e ffort of all interested actors, and to reach this end, we planned a series of activities to promote Physics, to raise the taste for scientific culture, to make the general public aware of Physics, and Science and technology in general, to expose students to our research laboratories to motivate them for scientific careers, and to show the importance of research, either basic or applied, in the pursue of a wealthier society. These steps are of even greater relevance in Portugal, a country still emerging from an intensive labor industrial tissue, but presently at the brink of emerging technology driven industries. The proposed plan includes activities like colloquia for the general public demonstrating the power of brilliant ideas of physicists with dir ect consequences to our everyday life, debates and workshops to help teachers teach better, and to engage students of all grade levels to learn by practicing, in order to implement the strategies stated in the "Minho Year of Physics" proposal. To make ou r activities far more reaching, we also intend to have a broad class of web contents, including forums, science games, and virtual experiences to broaden the chance of others to participate, even if they cannot be physically present.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
