Highlighting the role of women in research professions in Europe through television media

Objective

The strategic objectives of HIGHLIGHT are: 1. To contribute to the process of creation of public awareness on research and scientific careers, and the opportunities which might open up for young people in undertaking such careers. 2. To highlight the role of women in research and scientific professions and to highlight their peculiarities in career and life with respect to men. 3. To enhance the presence of European RTD activities and achievements on television media on a pan-European scale. These objectiv es will be achieved by: ? Identifying four female researchers/scientits out of the HRM and the Marie-Curie Activities, whose professional profiles look potentially attractive for broadcast media. ? Creating and Developing five audiovisual productions (one per researcher) focusing on researchers work, carrer, story and private life. ? Distributing the project?s audiovisual productions to European TV media, by using consolidated access gateways, such as the Eurovision: ? Monitoring the progress of the project and assessing its achievements and success, by measuring the quantity and quality of broadcasts of the HIGHLIGHT audiovisual productions. The expected, measurable results of the HIGHLIGHT project (see WP4 for details on methodology) are: ? To have each of its audiovisual productions broadcasted by at least 5 major national TV stations in 5 different EU countries. ? To reach an overall public TV audience of several tens of millions people. ? To exploit the project?s audiovisual productions by having them archived in reference audiovisual databases for broadcasting usage (including TV stations archives) beyond the end of the project. ? To track as many broadcasts as possible and to retrieve, for each broadcast, broadcasters? edit.
