Objective
In the proposed project NEXT GENERATION, cross-media approach will be used to attract more young people to careers in science. The main objective is to bring careers in research and everyday work of scientists closer to general public and especially to schoolchildren at the age of 14-18. First a series of 7 TV programmes will be produced and broadcasted in Estonian National TV channel Eesti Televisioon. TV programmes will show the everyday life of young scientists who will be chosen from different EU FP6 priority areas with additional accent on the World Year of Physics 2005. Scientists have to be young to make it easier for students to relate with them. In parallel with the TV programmes the following activities are planned: DVD of study materials (created on the basis of TV programmes and sent to all Estonian schools); Special edition of the weekly newspaper Linnaleht dedicated to science, young researchers and important science-related problems like ethics etc. (circulation 105 000, in addition to general circulation 5000 copies will be delivered to all Estonian schools and public libraries); A booklet ?Where begins the career in science? (will be delivered to all Estonian schools and public libraries); Webportal dedicated to World Year of Ph ysics 2005 - Linking physics to real life; Conference for students and teachers where all produced materials will be launched. Participants can meet face to face with inspiring scientists, and also students will have chance to share their own scientific results and findings with peers.
