Objective ESTRELA aims to focus and extend the postgraduate training provided by six of Europe's major astronomy institutes, to introduce students to new areas of science to be addressed by radio interferometry in the next decades, and to complement the training functions of the I3 RadioNet programme. Our collective ambition is a strong training programme to enable the next generation of European astronomers to exploit the wide range of instruments to be built worldwide in the next decade to their full astrophysical potential. The proposal will involve the recruitment of at least 2 PhD students per institute to work on collaborative astrophysical or technical projects in which one or more institutes have an existing interest.
