Objective
"The proposal submitted intends to bring closer together the research community and the general public in Cyprus during the organisation of an informal, though highly important event, on the 28th September 2007. The proposed activities will aim at (a) Bringing together the research community of Cyprus with the wider public (b) Showing to the visitors how research improves our quality of life (c) Increasing awareness about the importance of European research (d) Increasing the interest of younger generation in research activities. Activities will be addressed to the large public, whichever their gender, age, social status or level of scientific training and will be based on the active involvement of researchers. The major central event for the Researchers' Night 2007 will be taking place in Nicosia at the Olympic House and Park of the Cyprus Olympic Committee. During the event the following activities will be organised: (a) Exhibition divided into 5 thematic areas, named as the ""Five Circles of Quality of Life"", inspired by the venue. The 5 thematic areas are Health, Environment, Social Sciences and Humanities, Horizontal Applications of Technology and Sports Sciences (b) Award Ceremony for Cypriot research / enterprise participating in important EU-funded research project (c) Award Ceremony for the winners of the Research Promotion Foundation's competition for schoolchildren and undergraduate students (d) Award Ceremony for the drawing competition ""Let's Draw a Researcher"" (e) Music concert with the participation of various bands (f) Knowledge-based games. Various other activities are also foreseen across Cyprus, including tours of research facilities by school children. Promotion will be a major part of the project and will be achieved with the collaboration of the local media."
