Trans-Regional Researchers' Night in Public-Private Cooperation WonderWorld

Objective

"The trans-regional (Finnish regions: Kouvola, Lappeenranta, Lahti regions) event Researchers Night has a strong aim to bring researchers into interaction with citizens and to invite all citizens and especially young people and schools to visit the open campuses that night. The Researchers’ Night intends to increase the awareness of the importance of the research, and subsequently, it is targeted to demonstrate the great importance of researchers’ work for making a better world and a better life for all. It also aims at showing, how fascinating science is. In this context especially the Marie Curie contribution to the European research will obtain an important role, but also the European academic research cooperation in general. A great diversity of technology research and humanities with a focus on partners’ main disciplines and strengths will be demonstrated to a large public in a popular way. The demonstrations will be carried out in the most different ways in laboratories and in living labs, city centers and campuses with open doors, even in IC-trains, and connected with cultural performances by local schools such as drama and music - all transmitted by video technics in open air. Excursions, debates and panels between researchers and citizens, lectures, exhibitions, presentations, round tables and entertaining discussions, a quiz “Path of Science”, researchers' bus service ""Science Line"" and a drawing competition will be arranged around the topic. An international on-line communication with other European universities during the event is planned. All regional players are invited to demonstrate a real research-public-private partnership and to contribute to the dialog between society and research. Additionally, two other events will take place at the same time: the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome and a commercial demonstration action called “Night of Fashion”. A visible media campaign will be arranged before and during the event."
