Discover the Researchers' 3 Facets

Objective

"The R3searchers proposal consists of three events on the 28th September 2007, which will gather more than 5.000 people, organised by 3 public universities in Spain: in Barcelona (Catalonia), Girona (Catalonia), and San Sebastian (Basque Country). The main objective of the project is to enhance the recognition of researchers and their role in society, by offering to the public a unique insight into the triple facets of researchers: as scientists, as teachers and as common people. R3searchers focuses on letting the public to discover that university professors are hidden researchers among us. The specific objectives addressed will be to bring researchers closer to the large public, present researchers as “common people” to which the public can identify with and convince young people to embark scientific careers. The events will implemented throgh 3 different types of activities, located in strategic and attractive places, showing the triple facets of university researchers. These activities will allow the public the opportunity to interact with the different actors of the knowledge society in an informal, pleasant and enjoyable way: 1.Learning from researchers: A group of researchers will explain the content of their research tasks and its relevance for the society’s needs, mentioning their personal motivations. 2.Experiencing research: researchers will make hands-on demonstrations with direct participation of beneficiaries of EU support and involved in the exploitation of FP projects. 3.Playing with “reSEARCHers"": The public will join the researchers for a festive final part of the event, where diverse actions will take place, from games and music to theatre. A drawing exhibition of the previously held drawing competition will be set-up in every location. A further drawings analysis and a survey through the website wwill be used to tackle the existing stereotypes about researchers and have a reliable assessment of the project activities."
