Distribution networks modernization incentives in pre-accession countries

Objetivo

Guided by EU energy policy and particular incentives and commitments, the level of the distributed generation (DG) will increase significantly in all European countries in the coming decades. It is particularly fostered by the targets for use of renewable energy for 2010 and 2020, fast development of small Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facilities and the emerging Fuel Cells applications. The large-scale usage of DG will impose significant changes in the distribution grid operation, planning and design.

The existing passive distribution networks, transporting electricity from high voltage substations to the end users will cease to be suitable for providing secure and quality electricity supply. New philosophy of design, technologies for control and operation will be necessary in order to meet the requirements of the high-level electricity injection to the distribution nodes. The project aims to contribute to the reliable and economically effective integration of DG to the grid.
