Final Activity Report Summary - QIPEST (Quantum information processing early stage training network)
The early stage researchers were trained in a number of experimental techniques like electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) and optical detection of magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectroscopy as well as quantum optical technologies like single photon detector technology for analysing entanglement distillation protocols. Theoretical studies focussed on spin systems and cold atom quantum computing implementations. They were concerned with questions of novel quantum computing architectures that would be optimally adapted to the physical properties of the system used for implementation like e.g. 'always on' interactions between the constituents forming the quantum bits. The theory work also considered schemes where entanglement would lead to increased measurement accuracies. The work was particularly concerned with setups for such quantum enhanced measurements that would be feasible with current technology.
