Objective
SABRETRAIN will provide young scientists with high quality MSc and PhD training by utilising the combined resources of international partners with world renowned expertise in livestock genetics. This will prepare researchers with the skills to expand and enhance knowledge of genomics and genetics for sustainable animal breeding, so as to develop livestock production towards more environmentally and welfare friendly, low input systems that deliver safe, high quality foods in line with consumer expectations, and wider EU policy. SABRETRAIN is timely because of the pace of development in genomics, changing demands from agriculture, and the need for new skill sets in animal breeding to remain internationally competitive. SABRETRAIN is relevant because of the scale and importance of EU animal agriculture, it addresses societal and environmental issues, and the strong industrial need for skilled scientists and innovative fundamental research. SABRETRAIN is relevant to the Work Programme objectives as it provides comprehensive training for researchers to develop world-class research and complementary skills and enhance their career prospects by providing access to cutting edge facilities, supervision and stimulating multidicsciplinary environments in leading international research centres with a good track record in training ealry stage researchers. SABRETRAIN will innovate by providing students with improved industrial links, by aligning research to larger European projects and by linking the students to a wider cohort of contemporaries. All participating hosts agree to mututal recognition of the training provided. SABRETRAIN benefits hosts by broadening their training capacity, access to resources and to a flow of skilled Post-doctoral scientists. The improved interaction will reduce fragmentation, improve coordination, anad enhance the crititcal mass to accelerate European scientific progress.
