Objetivo This proposal is about the development of Edinburgh Speech Science Technology (EdSST) - a research training scheme in the area of speech science and technology based at the University of Edinburgh, and Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh. The two partners bring strong complementary aspects to the proposal: speech technology (including speech synthesis, speech recognition and dialogue systems), speech science (particularly speech production instrumentation and modelling) and an application orientati on to healthcare. The training programme will include a wide range of graduate courses, strong complementary training (with a focus on issues relating to health science and to entrepreneurship), focused short courses on specialist techniques, and an annual EdSST workshop. Beneficiaries of the scheme will include speech technologists looking to inform their work with speech science, speech scientists and phoneticians looking to develop quantitative instrumental skills, clinicians and speech technologists wis hing to develop their work in inclusive design and augmentative/alternative communication, computational modelling and machine learning researchers wishing to build accurate models of speech production, and clinicians wishing to exploit speech technology i n diagnosis, assessment and therapy.
