Research training in mathematical medicine and Biology at the University of Nottingham

Final Activity Report Summary - MMBNOTT (Research training in mathematical medicine and biology at the University of Nottingham)

This project involved the training of Marie Curie fellows on the early stage training (EST) network 'Mathematical medicine and biology at the University of Nottingham' (MMBNOTT). The network was hosted by the Centre for Mathematical Medicine and Biology in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Nottingham. The Centre comprises applied mathematicians and statisticians who, in collaboration with biomedical researchers, use mathematical and statistical methods to investigate a wide range of topics across biology and medicine.

The MMBNOTT network was designed to provide fellows with a broad training in relevant techniques and methods in mathematics and statistics, as well as in relevant areas of biomedical science, in order to give them the breadth of experience to undertake interdisciplinary research at new interfaces later in their careers. Fellows also received training in transferable research skills and pursued an individual research project that combined deterministic and statistical or stochastic modelling addressing a problem of biomedical relevance.

Each fellow established a personal career development plan and was granted Marie Curie status by the University of Nottingham. Moreover, each fellow was assigned three supervisors, i.e. an applied mathematician, a statistician and an experimentalist, who provided guidance through a three year research project. European mobility was promoted by drawing all fellows from outside the United Kingdom. The 10 research projects and fellows supported by MMMBNOTT, with their supervisors, are listed below.
