BLUE, a state-of-the-art digital video editing system, provides video editors with a turnkey solution for video production that delivers quality, productivity and flexibility. BLUE is the world's first all-format digital editing system. A new turnkey solution, the system features a number of unique technology firsts, including operating under MPEG2, the universally accepted compression standard for video editing, distribution and broadcast transmission. The system addresses the need for new digital tools within video production as the industry moves from mixed analogue/digital to purely digital processes. The combination of an open environment, fully integrated into high-performance personal computer (PC) components, and the use of a highly-integrated application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chips and sophisticated third party components deliver the best video quality in the industry. As the video production process turns from analogue to digital, new solutions have to be found for video post-production. The variety of new digital formats, the obsolence of current M/JPEG-based editing systems, and the increasing power of computer technology call for completely new designs. BLUE. was designed to allow editors to enhance flexibility, reduce costs and save time. With a real-time interface, BLUE. allows editors to work the way they are accustomed to, thus avoiding the time and expense of intensive training. Because it supports all formats, BLUE. also helps reduce their investment since all productions can be finished on one system. Being an open and modular system, it can be upgraded to take account of future developments and third-party plug-ins.
