Objetivo

This project aims to study the technology and performance of devices for switching and routing optical signals in fibreoptic communication systems and to set up tentative specifications for such devices.

A considerable number of the original goals have been covered from 1988 on, by RACE projects. Consequently, the COST 216 work was directed more to modelling of devices and towards assessment of the latest research results. The Technical expert groups (Working groups) were engaged in modelling, device and network aspects of optical switching and routing devices.
