Objective
Since the business process oriented business development is aimed at breakthrough improvements, the Information Management (IM) must be able to create information systems which really enable business transformation. The critical attributes are customer satisfaction, quality, time and cost. This means that one of the core competencies in IM is process oriented development.
To meet the challenges above, the objective for this experiment is to introduce a world-class IM Business Alignment and Prestudy process, which really ensures the innovative and fast IM solutions to support the business best possible way.
THE EXPERIMENT
The introduction of IM Business Alignment and Prestudy processes is done as follows:
- evaluating & launching new processes
- retailing a case tool to support the new processes
- piloting the processes in one project: this integrates the PIE and the baseline project
- reporting
- launching the processes world-wide.
Project is managed all the way, from the planning phase to the end of the project. The baseline application will be implemented in Lotus Notes environment. NMP employs 4444 people, of which 20 % are involved in software engineering.
EXPECTED IMPACT AND EXPERIENCE
We are expecting to introduce a way of working which enables a real business transformation through information systems. Real sustainable business benefit is gained when combining processes and information systems together. From the technical point of view this means that everybody involved in the IM related business development has the competence to act as a business developer, which is a real asset to the company. The development life cycle will be shortened and the output quality will be improved because of the world-class process. These ideas are tested in the PIE.
The future after the PIE includes world wide roll-out of these tested processes, which is a strategic action as such.
