Although industrial adoption of formal methods has progressed steadily over the last twenty years, it has been slower than the state of the technology and its understanding could have permitted. The typical barriers have been a lack of knowledge on the part of potential industrial users of the capabilities of formal methods, of experience to date, and of available tools. Potential users are unwilling to be the first to do so, perceiving a heavy investment and painful learning curve, with competitors gaining an advantage from their early lessons. Tools have tended to remain in prototype status because lack of substantial usage has prevented the investment opportunities for their industrialization. FMEInfRes addressed this problem which gave a boost to the industrial adoption of formal methods. The FMEInfRes project has provided information resources which will help software managers and potential users of formal methods to make informed decisions about whether and which methods to use, where information can be found, experiences to date, etc. Specifically, the FMEInfRes project established the following information resources: a database of existing application; a database of information on tool; files of frequently asked questions; bibliographies on formal methods; a newsletter and other leaflets, reports, articles and paper based information. The first four of these resources have been made freely available via world wide web (WWW) pages and continues to be maintained.
