Objective
The EDRA project aimed at creating a multilingual, multi-application European DOl Registration Agency (RA) providing value-added services for authors, publishers, distributors and users of digital content. The Digital Object Identifier is the new standard, interoperable, actionable, persistent, and multi-resolution identifier for any digital content. Existing DOI-RAs operate at global level for some market segments essentially based on textual content, prevalently written in English, and dominated by large conglomerates.
EDRAA aimed at setting up an RA suitable for the requirements of SMEs publishing content in different languages. Starting from preliminary studies on the market situation, the project implemented the system and tested it in an open environment involving a significant number of early adopters. A commercial release of the system was made available at the end of the project. Broad dissemination and promotion activities accompanied the technical work throughout the project lifetime.
