Objective
The goal of LOIS is to localise a legally oriented WordNet into a number of European languages being sufficient to create a strategic approach at European level, and to allow the affirmation of the paradigm as a standard for accessing legal resources. LOIS will contribute to the creation of a European Legal WordNet where lexical items can be mapped from language to language according to their semantic meaning, at least as far as the LOIS project team considers the structure of Wordnet to be semantically oriented. However, the goal of LOIS is not only to localise resources for the sake of exploitation of third parties; LOIS actually aims at creating a paradigm for accessing legal resources from both a monolingual and cross-lingual point of view.
