Objectif
The ESPRIT project OSACA (Open System Architecture for Controls within Automation Systems, EP6379) started in 1992, with the aim of uniting European interests and creating a vendor-neutral standard for open control systems. It is supported by major European control vendors.
The project concluded its second phase in April 1996, and now has at its disposal, a stable set of specifications and a tested pool for system software. The first national and regional OSACA based projects have already been established.
This project will communicate the results and benefits of OSACA to users in the European machinery industry creating a momentum strong enough to establish OSACA as an industrial standard. It will unite the interests of users and foster national and regional initiatives. It must obtain the lead in an initiative producing a significant effect in European industry which is also able to offer solutions to requirements arising in the USA and Japan.
The goal is to provide users in the manufacturing industry with information about OSACA on both management and technical levels to promote the rapid take-up of results in industrial products. The action intends moreover to establish bilateral relationships with regional, national and European projects to serve as a turntable for information and experiences in open control systems.
Information dissemination will be via books, brochures and demonstration applications. Seminars, courses, workshops, participation on fairs, individual contacts and a Web-server will be established to approach users. The already established collaboration with CECIMO will be extended to organising events with the national machine tool builder associations. Special attention will be paid to SMEs for whom a package with individual consultations is foreseen.
The action is part of the overall strategy of the OSACA consortium to establish OSACA as an international standard for open control systems. It will be co-ordinated with the association 'Open Systems Architecture for Controls Association' (OSACA e.V.) the European user group of vendors and suppliers of open control systems.
The action has links for co-operation which are open to other European, national and regional projects, allowing collaboration at any time to join forces and generate maximum synergy.
