Objetivo
The aim of the project is to create a multimedia support network, based on four Mediterranean regions, dedicated to fostering the development of European multimedia applications in the area of culture and arts.
The main objectives of M.Cube will be to:
- improve the competitiveness of the European multimedia industry, enhancing the quality of its products, improving the business capabilities of the enterprises, attracting funds for the new developments, etc.
- create a critical mass to penetrate the consumer market at international level; M.Cube will put together many small developers to address the market through big distributors.
- exploit the enormous European potential in terms of cultural contents.
Investigations already carried out by the partners have shown that besides the need for technological, marketing and management support in the multimedia industry. The key role of the editorial function is missing in its organisation. This editorial function should link the developers with the distributors and connect all the other actors/suppliers. The first aim of M.Cube is to help establish this editorial function.
After establishing the editorial base, engineering, financing and distributing new products will be the first of the multimedia manufacturers' requirements to be met. Then the focus will move to the other technical services needed to structure the manufacturing side of participating companies, to raise originality and quality of the products, cut costs and build the multimedia business on a genuine industrial basis. This best practice implementation will find in European culture and arts a particularly appealing application.
Supplying multimedia support services to cultural users is a strategic task for M.Cube. Museums, galleries, collections, public administrations, etc. will be pilot users and clients of advanced technological solutions, based on the application of multimedia to culture and arts.
The consortium is composed of four organisations located in Catalunya (Spain), Languedoc-Roussillon (France), Tuscany (Italy) and Attica (Greece). The current activities of these organisations are principally devoted to technology transfer and economic development of their respective regions, with particular regard to SMEs. The four organisations will establish an international network of local support centres to provide a large range of services.
The multimedia distributor Sacis, which is already operating worldwide, is part the consortium. This distributor will take advantage of the services of the support centre network, using their pre-screening of products to select the more strategic ones. The best ideas could be financed for further development and the best products included into its distribution catalogue to be sold all over the world.
The M.Cube contribution will be to:
- first, contribute to the development of a whole editorial line, defining technical and artistic contents, market targets and channels, certification process, methodological recommendations, policy and programmes.
- second, create a network of manufacturers, through setting up local associations and the development of international exchanges.
- third, develop business opportunities with the final aim of stimulating new market.
- fourth, provide a large set of services through intermediation and direct delivery, technological and manufacturing services, training, access to multimedia repositories, certification, consulting activities, information desk, etc.
