Wide area project supporting pan-European information dissemination

Objective

Electronic component suppliers have large image databases holding technical support information and product data sheets. The core size and number of weekly updates make it difficult for such suppliers to maintain these databases over a number of international sites. A centralised approach with conventional telecommunications links is infeasible as access and transfer time would prevent practical use of the system for support engineers in direct telephone contact with customers.
The objective of the WARPSPEID project is to specify and evaluate the effectiveness of using high-performance networks to provide pre and post-sales support in engineering component supply for RS Components. Their offices in various member states will be networked allowing direct access to the existing UK product support databases. The effect will be to improve both the accuracy and timeliness of responses for European mainland customers with consequent improvement in customer service. A number of SMEs will also be networked allowing direct access to the RS support database without the need for intermediate support.
An objective of the project is to convert greater access to a broad range of leading-edge technical information into a competitive advantage for European companies both users and suppliers. Other socio-economic benefits are expected through the better use of qualified staff and through the improvement in the quality of their work.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
