Clusters in Aerospace and Satellite Navigation Technologies linked to Entrepreneurial Innovation

Objective

CASTLE is a trans-national cluster formed by three European regional clusters engaged in aerospace technologies and with strong sectoral focus on satellite navigation (SatNav) applications: Leiden, Zuid Holland; Prague, Czech Republic and Munich, Bavaria. It is proposed to support the three existing cluster structures in becoming more competitive and to develop as European leaders in innovative and creative applications covering known fields of SatNav like air, rail or fleet control as well as new imaginative ideas.

The suggested co-ordinating action will analyse the existing structures in the three regions, identify best practice in the management of clusters, organise joint workshops and seminars, identify latest business trends and improve the networking of the key players. Mutual learning and exchange of personnel and experts is planned during the 30 months project time. Members involved are SME cluster members from each region; a university-based research institution from Prague; the national Czech Space Office; CeTIM, the Leiden-based technology management centre and, as co-ordinator, GruenderRegio M, Munich's university start-up support platform.

Expected results are the mobilisation of existing SatNav clusters in Europe to collaborate and exploit synergies, to better understand the success factors and weaknesses of clusters, the launch of joint projects and business strategies among the participant clusters and the definition of policy lessons and recommendations in particular for the new member states.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
