Descripción del proyecto
Technology building blocks for creating, monitoring and managing secure, resilient and always available information infrastructures that link critical infrastructures
As remarked in very recent studies of the Federal Reserve (http://www.federalreserve.gov/) a financial infrastructure is anunmanaged large scale networked system of interconnected financialmarkets and banking systems by which domestic and internationalfinancial institutions allocate capital and manage their riskexposures. The 9/11 attack and European and North American blackoutsover the past decade have emphasized vulnerability of thisinfrastructure to wide-scale disruptions and highlightedinterdependencies between the financial infrastructure and othercritical ones (notably the power grid, telecommunicationinfrastructure and the Internet).
The main purpose of the CoMiFin STREP is strategically targeting improvements of the EU technological and institutional pace in addressing financial infrastructure protection (FIP).Specifically, CoMIFin aims to provide "an infrastructure level monitoring, notification andmitigation" middleware as an essential element of FIP. CoMiFin aimsat supporting business continuity of a financial actor on top of anunmanaged network of managed financial infrastructures under allforeseeable failure scenarios including the operational failures anddeliberate breaches. To ensure that the technology developed byCoMiFin fits well into the overall holistic approach behind FIP, wewill leverage the expertise of both: prominent user partners presentin the consortium and Financial User Advisory Board membersalongside the technological partners.
