Serving Life-science Information for the Next Generation

Objective

SLING is about Serving Life-science information for the Next Generation. Its goal is to make sure that advances in European Science are supported by the best possible biomolecular information, and that European scientists are optimally equipped to exploit it. To do this it makes available a comprehensive range of databases and services from SIB and the EBI, provides extensive, high-quality training in the use of these databases, and carries out R&D necessary to enable the data and services to keep page with changing science. The activities are designed to support both commercial and academic research throughout Europe, and its training will be delivered in numerous European locations. The work to ensure the quality of the data will include efforts targeted at information in patent literature through the European Patent Office. New high-throughout methods such as next-generation DNA sequencing will provide major stimuli for the R&D work of the project.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
