Document routing

Objective

A document routing system is an indispensable component for bridging the gap between OCR scanning of documents and Document Flow systems, enabling fully automatic input and routing of free-format texts. It can be also used to direct news-items and other messages broadcast over Internet to prospective readers.

The purpose of the DOcument ROuting project is to develop a scaleable and platform-independent system performing automatic routing of human-readable documents in electronic form on the basis of an analysis of the contents of the documents and knowledge of the characteristics of the possible destinees. Capable to handle increasing demands of big users with respect to throughput and complexity, the system will be embedded into standard workflow environments and will appear as a 'black box component' of such systems.

The system will be demonstrated for three different Community languages, which are Dutch, Greek, and Spanish. Tests will be performed in banking, insurance and Stock Exchange applications. The project will use industry standard processors and results will be adaptable to various application domains, and various languages. DORO will demonstrate that a throughput of 3000 one-page (200 word) documents per hour is achievable on a 16-processor parallel computing system, with a success rate of over 90% .
