Objective
The main goal of the present Research Project is to make progress in the task of discerning the basic memory processes and the dynamics involved in the phenomenon of false memory. Specifically, the proposal considers conducting a series of systematic empirical studies aimed at defining, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the contribution of activation mechanisms to the particular phenomenon of false recognition of unstudied words. There is a proposal to complete normative studies directed to obtaining subjective and objective indexes for a large sample of Spanish words, including free-association norms, with the goal of making appropriate verbal materials available. There is a plan to conduct a number of memory experiments in controlled laboratory conditions in which variables related to associative strength, spread of activation, and structural organization of the lexical-semantic network will be manipulated, with the goal of studying their effects on false recognition. Finally, neural correlates will be studied, using ERP measures, as a way of gathering converging evidence about the nature of the activation mechanisms involved in false recognition.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
