The FREE project answers the question: how to improve collaborative work between trading partners. Based on an organizational model, a virtual organization is analyzed with first a static assessment and dynamic measurement of the operation. Analyzing the results is input for a structured improvement framework. A dedicated set is prepared for SME organizations. Today's co-operation between trading partners is based on commercial and contractual rules that block the necessary collaboration loops between the different partners' expertise. This should be changed into increasing enterprise reactivity, which is what the FREE approach is aimed at, based on collaboration between partners in order to maximize the overall capacity. A FREE is an alliance between partners that have complementary knowledge and skills to reach a competitive edge in the market. Its key features are: shared leadership, common purpose, mission and values, common business and strategic goals and a networked organization based on workforce empowerment and shared processes and policies. The topics addressed in the FREE project are: -Environment: strategy, goals, partnership and customer relations -Organizational arrangements: communication and collaboration -Shared processes between partners; management, adaptation and support -People and other resources: knowledge, technology, etc. The focus is on quality improvement in the operation of a FREE organization. The FREE components are: a FREE organizational model, used to define the scope of any relevant quality improvement process. a Capability Assessment Framework evaluating company project practices. a Performance Measurement Method measuring to what extent the operational FREE structure achieves the economical and technical objectives. an Improvement Framework that provides practical recommendations and guidance. project URL : http://esoce.pl.ecp.fr/ce-net/ce-documents/free/Navigator.htm
