Objective
IAM-Pilot is an action aiming to achieve European availability of a permanent industrial platform for IAM (Intelligent Actuation and Measurement). The pilot is designed and built to support progress towards IAM industrialisation by providing a real-life evolving demonstration of the state-of-the-art in IAM user requirements and market offerings, as well as the additional support for the user requirements which remain to be developed.
The work on IAM made available through ESPRIT projects DIAS, PRIAM, and EIAMUG (PRIAM User Group) defines the basic practical concepts, the extended user requirements and the functional architecture of 'IAM as users need it'. Above all, it shows IAM potential to achieve real benefits for the several phases of the life cycle of distributed systems and plant control in support of the operation, maintenance, on site trouble shooting and technical management (CMM) in Plant Automation.
Returns of experience from EIAMUG have made clear that this new IAM can meet user needs for the main industrial sectors in Europe. Another result of the EIAMUG is the recognition of IAM and CMM by European Industry and by several Function blocks and Fieldbus related IEC and CENELEC Standardisation Committees who are requesting assistance to understand and use IAM material.
