Objective
In the framework of the unprecedented business opportunities offered by the exponential growth of Internet, the ELEGANT Project aims at introducing commerce pilot techniques in the garment industry, with the aim to reduce time-to-market, improve logistics and strengthen the chain "producer - trade - consumer".
The ELEGANT proposal is focused in particular on:
- the set-up of electronic networked multimedia kiosk in shops, for usage by the end-consumers. This is foreseen in 30 points of sales in Italy and 15 in Austria;
- electronic purchase of fashion clothes by the end-consumer via Web;
- the provision of an electronic multimedia "Textile Workbook" to be used for marketing purposes to the trade;
- the strengthening of WWW usage for the streamlining of relationships between producer and trade in the following aspects: access to warehouse data, order management, customers' satisfaction surveys;
- the definition and set-up of security policies.
The Project will thus not focus only on electronic payment systems (that will be a part of the project) but mainly in the optimization of all processes impacted by electronic commerce. Henceforth the project will be organized in accordance with Business Process Re-Engineering approaches, in particular the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle and the collection/analysis of quantitative indicators.
The project is proposed by CAL, a leading Italian company in the field of high quality clothes for sportswear and mountaineering; the effort will be supported by Sportfreizeit, an Austrian sportswear distributor and Onion, an Internet Service Provider. The three companies are already strongly co-operating in the development and deployment of electronic commerce solutions, on top of which the ELEGANT Project will be built.
As part of the project, it is foreseen to pilot the electronic commerce facilities in Italy and Austria, through the installation and usage of the facilities in 45 Electronic Shops.
ELEGANT is proposed as a complementary project with respect to the various efforts on secure electronic payments and it is felt as very interesting considering the very broad user base for electronic commerce services in clothes shops.
