Cosmological singularities in string theory

Objective

The aim of this project is to study strong gravitational fields, and especially cosmological singularities, with string theory. We will use the complementary tools of world-sheet conformal field theory, to obtain a description of these space-times valid to arbitrarily high- energy scales, and gauge/gravity correspondence (holography) to go beyond perturbation theory. Scenarios of mirage cosmology will also be considered using an exact boundary conformal field theory description. The success of this project will provide new important results to understand the primordial universe that may be compared to new experimental data, as well as more conceptual insights about quantum gravity.
