Gravity, strings and the dynamics of strongly coupled gauge theories

Objective

The study of holographic duals has yielded and will continue to yield very interesting information about the structure of string theory and gauge theory. Within this setting, the ultimate goals of this project are the following:
(1) to explore the phase structure of near-external branes (in the presence of compact directions) and the consequences of this structure for thermal physics of non-gravitational theories,
(2) to obtain more information about the structure of Little String Theories and non -critical super-strings by analysing the dynamics of D-branes in the vicinity of NS5-branes using exact boundary conformal field theory methods, and
(3) to analyse the topological sector of Little String Theories and the nature of some closely related o pen/closed string dualities by studying the properties of topological non-critical super-strings.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
