The GALFORMOD project created simulations of the formation and evolution of the galaxy population throughout a region corresponding to a substantial fraction of the observable universe, and made the results available through a powerful and flexible web-based interface to the entire global astrophysical community. The new modelling techniques have resulted in the most realistic models created so far, providing a good representation of the observed abundances and clustering of galaxies as a function of properties such as their luminosity, size, heavy element content and internal structure across more than 90% of cosmic history. These models have been very widely used by the international community, with more than 700 papers in the refereed professional literature making direct use of their results so far.
