Security, Services, nEtworking and performance of next generation IP-based multimedia wireless Networks

Final Report Summary - S2EUNET (Security, Services, nEtworking and performance of next generation IP-based multimedia wireless Networks)

The Security, Services, Networking and Performance of Next Generation IP-based Multimedia Wireless Networks (acronym: S2EuNet) project is a joint initiative by thirteen partner universities (four in Europe and nine in four eligible third countries) in the form of staff and researcher exchange under the FP7/People/IRSES action, call 2009. The project lasted for four years, starting on 15 June 2010 and ending on 14 June 2014. The project is coordinated by the University of Agder (UiA) in Norway and the consortium is composed of UiA, Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV) in Spain, Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) in Italy, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) in China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China, Sichuan University (SCU) in China, University of Pittsburgh (PITT) in USA, Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) in Mexico, École Supérieure des Communications de Tunis (SUPCOM) in Tunisia, Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados (CINVESTAV) in Mexico, University of Minnesota (UMN) in USA, and Georgia Institute of Technology (GATECH) in USA.

The primary goal of this project is to strengthen research partnership among partner organizations and to elevate the scientific competence of the participating organizations in the fields of next generation mobile systems and wireless networks. More specifically, the project has the following objectives:

• to reinforce cooperation among partner organizations, not only between European partners and third country partners, but also between European partners for the purpose of developing long-term research partnership, at the organizational level;

• to investigate various aspects of emerging technologies in future wireless and mobile networks for the provision of reliable, security and high-performance IP-based multimedia services;

• to enhance research quality and lift the scientific competence of the participating organizations through joint research activities; and

• to educate more and better qualified PhD candidates at the international level.

The performed project activities and the achieved main results are represented by about 180 outgoing and incoming PMs from/to Europe, 59 joint publications (49 published or accepted and 10 under review), 16 joint research project proposals, 25 joint workshops/conferences, joint supervision of PhD students, newly signed or renewed MoUs, and numerous presentations at host
universities.

This project provides an excellent platform to promote partners' research work to each other, to share knowledge with each other and to generate joint research results as well as stimulate new research ideas. Through the collaborations performed within this project, we have established benign and sustainable partnership among partner universities and some of these relationships, e.g. the
cooperation between UMN and UiA, are of strategic importance for the internationalization of the involved beneficiaries.
