Critical Phenomena in Random Systems

Final Report Summary - CRIPHERASY (Critical Phenomena in Random Systems)

The project has studied how to describe and to compute the behavior of a disorder system at a second order phase transition. This is a difficult task because in the standard approach second order phase transitions are viewed as the change from disorder to order. In the case of disordered systems there are others transitions that correspond to the change from standard disorder to a special form of disorder, characterized by some form of hidden order.

We have analyzed these phenomena in many different situations. A very interesting result has been the discovery of this kind of hidden transitions for glasses at low temperature. This transition is likely to be crucial for understanding many of the peculiar properties of glasses in the low temperature limit.
