Objective
A new type of optical waveguide will be developed in order to enable individual living eucaryotic cells to be monitored in situ with extremely high resolution. Their response to drugs, toxins and other xenobiotics as well as viruses can thereby be comprehensively monitored. Bacterial-eucaryote interactions can also be monitored. The novel waveguide will form the core of a new type of universal nanodevice for clinical diagnostics and toxicity testing.
